PHARMA MAJOR USES NETDIAGNOSTICS ENTERPRISE TO BRING STABILITY & SCALABILITY TO BUSINESS CRITICAL APPLICATIONS

CHALLENGE

Mankind Pharma, an Indian pharmaceutical behemoth with over 16,000 employees, presence in over 34 countries and $1 billion in revenue, has multiple in-house and customer facing applications that are instrumental in ensuring that all its verticals are running as per business expectations. The organization now has varied applications that are instrumental in delivering critical operational activities for both patients and staff. However, due to the sheer scale of users across these applications, there were repeated instances of slowness and/or non-responsiveness. In the healthcare sector where even the slightest of delays can have manifold impact, the organization could not afford to let these issues go undetected and needed a solution to identify the underlying root cause with speed and accuracy. Scalability issues were also prevalent as the application could not handle the load as expected and that resulted in direct revenue impact.

CAVISSON’S APM SOLUTION ENHANCES CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE & OPTIMIZES APPLICATION PERFORMANCE

One of the biggest Indian pharmaceutical organizations utilized NetDiagnostics Enterprise to identify & mitigate frequently occurring issues and drives operational and business efficiency across multiple verticals

About Mankind Pharma

Industry: Pharmaceutical

Location: India

Challenge: Critical business applications witnessing application slowness and non-responsiveness, resulting in a compound effect on revenue and operations.

Product Used: Result: NetDiagnostics Enterprise Mankind uncovers various application and infrastructure insights that help in ensuring application stability and scalability.

Mankind Pharma deployed Cavisson’s NetDiagnostics Enterprise to reduce MTTR and MTTD and increase the overall user experience for their business critical applications. From optimizing resource consumption to ensuring that the user journey was at par with the customer expectations, NDE was instrumental in deriving multiple benefits for the Pharma major.

SOLUTION

Cavisson’s NetDiagnostics Enterprise was deployed to monitor the applications facing frequent issues. With a comprehensive coverage of all modules covering database, application, infrastructure and APIs, the entire tech stack was monitored. The applications were .NET based with MySQL as the underlying database. Multiple issues were found using NetDiagnostics’s extensive monitoring capabilities:

❖ CPU Utilization of the application server was observed to be unusually high even when the application was not operating under excessive load.

❖ On the database side, NDE was instrumental in finding that the threads were getting stuck during the DB calls being made from the application server.

❖ Furthermore, detailed DB monitoring was used to chart query execution plans and identify queries that were taking too long to execute.

❖ APIs were becoming non-responsive when a certain volume of user traffic was reached, an observation made by NDE’s drill down capabilities.

❖ The user flow of the application being used by doctors and patients to schedule appointments, manage diagnosis history and perform vital doctor-patient workflows was found to have multiple issues which resulted in unusually high drop-offs signifying that further optimizations were needed.

BENEFITS

Mankind Pharma was able to reap a wide array of benefits using NetDiagnostics Enterprise. Once the deployment was carried out successfully across the tech stack, the following benefits were witnessed:

❖ Based on the issues found and the suggestions given by Performance experts at Cavisson, the thread-pool size of the database was increased which lead to complete mitigation of long running DB queries.

❖ The applications were able to handle 10x more load post NDE implementation as compared to before. This resulted in a direct uptick in revenue.

❖ User flow within the application was optimized and resulted in a better UX apart from the fact that unwarranted drop-offs were reduced.

❖ Unwanted APIs were identified and removed, leading to resource optimization and better maintainability of the application.
